Adult ADD/ADHD Counseling and Evaluation
Cascade Counseling provides comprehensive Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) testing and medication management for ages 16 and older. We use several respected and research tested measures to assess ADHD. We also assess for other conditions that present like ADHD but are different. This is to help us in making an accurate diagnosis. Our testing packet includes several measures for ADHD, plus measures for intelligence, bipolar disorder, anxiety, depression, thought disorders, and several other conditions, to assist us in making an accurate assessment. Cascade Counseling provides a very thorough and complete ADHD assessment.
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is frequently misunderstood, assessed poorly, and treated incorrectly. The primary symptoms of ADHD are lifelong difficulty with focus, attention, and functioning. Because most clients with ADHD are above average in intelligence, many are undiagnosed as children, and can get by adequately until adulthood. Their intelligence allows them to procrastinate, complete tasks at the last minute, and still perform adequately. But the challenges of life, work, family, college, promotions, etc.… eventually catch up with the undiagnosed ADHD adult. It is then that the ADHD symptoms really interfere with life. Undiagnosed ADHD adults frequently feel like something is holding them back from achieving their potential. It is also not common for ADHD adults to feel depressed and anxious, as the reality of living with undiagnosed ADHD is depressing and anxiety provoking. Prior to ADHD testing these clients are often treated for depression and anxiety, but with little relief, due to the cause not being accurately addressed.
The testing process at Cascade Counseling starts with an in person or telehealth intake interview, focusing on the client’s life and functioning. A screening is also provided at this intake interview. If the client meets ADHD criteria by history and screening the testing process is initiated.
The testing packet is emailed to the client, filled out and returned to the provider. The provider scores the testing and sets up another appointment to thoroughly go over the test results. At this appointment the testing data, in combination with the providers expertise, will conclude if the client has ADHD, something else, or nothing at all.
If the client is diagnosed with ADHD, we will refer them to the medical provider of their choice and write that medical provider a confidential report regarding their assessment. After they have been treated for at least 30 days they will meet with the diagnostic provider again to make sure they are responding well to the treatment they are receiving and are accurately diagnosed. If any further treatment is desired or needed, we can provide additional assistance at that time.
At Cascade Counseling we take great pride in performing high quality, reasonably priced, and complete assessments for ADHD.
